On the Effectivity of Generic Drugs

On the Effectivity of Generic Drugs

Because we are a pharmacy in Northridge, California, our clients often ask us if generic drugs are enough to treat the conditions that they have. We at Poly-Med Pharmacy believe so. Generic medications are quite as effective as their name-brand counterparts. Allow us, then, to explain what we mean by that.

According to the FDA, a generic drug has to be the same as the brand-name drug in dosage, safety, administration, quality, and other metrics. By this requirement, generic drugs should be able to have the same effectivity as their branded counterparts. As providers of medication therapy management in California, we can say that this is the case.

While there is an expected level of variation between the manufacturing of a well-known brand, studies only observe a 3.5% difference in the absorption characteristics. For this reason, the FDA finds no reason to discourage the use of generic medication against known brand names. The effect is that the drug becomes accessible to more people.

Get your generic drugs from our pharmacy. We offer various medications to help you deal with a variety of different illnesses, including a drive-thru flu shot. For more information, comments, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us or visit us at 17313 Roscoe Boulevard, Northridge, California, 91325.
