Everything You Need to Know About Hospice

Everything You Need to Know About Hospice

A patient with a terminal illness that is expected to live for 6 months or less can receive hospice care. It consists of a team of care providers such as a caregiver and a pharmacist, among others. They work to help the patient be as free from symptoms and as comfortable as possible during their remaining months. Hospice care is usually covered by Medicaid, Medicare, and other insurance plans.

A doctor recommends hospice care for patients so that they can be treated for symptoms and pain relief instead of seeking a cure. Hospice not only provides medical care but also spiritual and emotional support. They also provide hospice pharmacy services.

Hospice pharmacy services are only provided by specially trained pharmacists. They may talk to patients directly about their medicines, and provide medication therapy management, and emotional care.

While the point of hospice is not to cure, medicine still plays an important role in managing the patient’s symptoms. Hospice pharmacists can work with the patient’s doctors to find the most suitable delivery method, dosage, and version that is best for the patient.

Hospice care can be provided at the patient’s home, a family member’s home, at a hospital, in an assisted living facility, or at an independent hospice facility.
